The James Comey book and upcoming interview are getting a lot of attention. So much attention, in fact, that the RNC and Trump devotees have gone into panic mode, launching a website and ad campaign to try and put out that smoldering fire.
The new RNC-funded website is called “Lyin’ Comey,” but when put to the people, who do they think is the liar?
Well, a poll from ABC News-Washington Post examined that.
According to the poll, the former FBI director has the edge, as far as trustworthiness.
By a margin of 48 percent to 32 percent, Comey is rated “more believable” than President Trump.
Nearly half–47 percent–of poll respondents said they disapproved of Trump’s decision to fire Comey, compared to only 33 percent who said they approve.
At the time, Trump was making a lot of noise about a broken and in shambles FBI, even as agents and others within the bureau were saying the opposite, in regards to their respect for James Comey as director.
That’s not to say there haven’t been problems with the FBI. Or the DOJ. Or any other government/law enforcement entity. It happens, and the way Comey handled the Hillary Clinton email scandal was heavy with the stench of corruption and partisan hackery.
That was life under the Obama presidency. All the more reason we needed a reasonable, relatively scandal-free individual running things from the Oval Office, this time around. Instead, we upped the ante, by bringing in somebody who not only has had a long and checkered history of being steeped in corruption, but topped it off with incompetence, as well.
After dismissing Comey, Trump’s team said it was because of recommendations from Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, regarding how the Clinton scandal was handled.
Perfectly legitimate reason.
Almost immediately, Trump went on television and said it was because of the “Russia thing,” while talking with NBC’s Lester Holt.
He admitted on national television that he fired the head of the FBI to stop an investigation into a hostile foreign nation that attempted to interfere with a U.S. election, and his fanboys still get the vapors that there’s now a special counsel involved. The man practically begged to be subjected to investigation. What’s more, very little he’s done since has helped his situation.
The ABC News-WaPo poll was conducted from April 8 to April 11, among 1,002 respondents. It has a margin of error of 3.5 percent.
