Devotees of President Trump have kicked off a website and ad campaign, designed to combat the threat of the upcoming book tour by former FBI Director James Comey, for his new book, “A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies and Leadership.”
The website, paid for by the RNC, is called “Lyin’ Comey,” because that’s the highest level of intellect that can be mustered to defend Trump.
Besides ads, talking points will be distributed to Republican leaders, pretty much signaling the very real threat they feel Comey represents.
The goal is to paint Comey as a “disgraced former official.”
They’re even willing to use Democrat talking points to do it.
Digital advertisements will attempt to remind Democrats that they lost faith in Comey during the 2016 presidential race, when he closed and later reopened an official investigation into Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton over her use of a private email server while secretary of State.
A video on the “Lyin’ Comey” website, titled “Comey isn’t credible — just ask Democrats,” shows Democratic Party leaders, including House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), speaking on their doubts about the then-FBI director in the midst of the election.
Right, because they feel his reopening the case damaged Clinton’s chances at the presidency.
So much for the other narrative of Comey being a Democrat partisan, out to get Trump.
“Comey is a liar and a leaker and his misconduct led both Republicans and Democrats to call for his firing,” Republican Chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel told CNN. “If Comey wants the spotlight back on him, we’ll make sure the American people understand why he has no one but himself to blame for his complete lack of credibility.”
And maybe that will work for you, but ultimately, the decision may be made up by book sales.
The book isn’t due to hit shelves until next Tuesday (April 17), but I just checked on Amazon, and it currently sits at the #1 spot, which suggests at least a high interest in the book.
Contrast that interest with former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski’s book, “Let Trump Be Trump” at #6,525 and Trump bootlicker Newt Gingrich’s book, “Understanding Trump” sitting at #21,146 and you get a general feel for where we’re at. The public’s desire to protect Trump, at all costs doesn’t seem to extend to swallowing a load of propaganda.
