The irony is thick on this one: Feminist activist/icon Gloria Steinem recently paid a visit to NBC’s Today Show to promote the third edition of “Outrageous Acts and Everyday Rebellions.” In the course of the interview, Steinem took the opportunity to paint pro-lifers with the Nazi brush:
“Another is why Hitler was actually elected — and he was elected — and he campaigned against abortion. That was he padlocked the family planning clinics, OK, so that is still relevant in terms of the right-wing.”
So let’s consider this: Hitler campaigned against abortion and padlocked family planning clinics. The “right-wing” campaigns against abortion. See the similarities? Practically twins!
Come to think of it, that’s not just any old run-of-the-mill Nazi brush. That’s an actual Hitler brush! So, right-wingers (who advocate for life) are just like Hitler. And/or Hitler was right-wing.
Setting aside the fact that Steinem’s “logic” is more full of holes than Swiss cheese, one can’t help but find her observation rich. Hitler and the Nazi regime are notorious for exterminating roughly 6 million people. That’s a fact universally condemned as evil. (Hence, the frequent playing of the Hitler/Nazi card.) How many babies have been aborted since Roe v. Wade was decided? Roughly 60 million. Sixty. But that’s just hunky-dory in Steinem’s world. Right.
