You have to give it to HBO professional provocateur, Bill Maher, on how to thread a needle occasionally and play both sides. He does it really well. The host of “Real Time With Bill Maher” last Friday decided to do a lil backtracking on his previous hot take of Omar tweeting and saying anti-Semitic stuff.
Well, he kinda backed up.
According to FOX NEWS
“Real Time” host Bill Maher reversed course over allegations of anti-Semitism against Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn, after previously defending her.
Omar has been accused of anti-Semitism because of controversial tweets suggesting that people who are pro-Israel are bought by groups like the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC).
“First of all, I’m a free speech person. I believe you’re allowed to criticize Israel without being an anti-Semite,” Maher said Friday night. “Having said that, I’ve read some of her other tweets… She might be. I don’t know what her thoughts are on this.”
This was a change since last month when he stated this on his show…
“I probably don’t agree with her a lot about what she feels about Israel and Palestine, but I don’t know why this has to be seen as anti-Semitic,” Maher said at the time. “Now, she may be anti-Semitic, but if I criticize Saudi Arabia, that doesn’t mean I’m Islamophobe.”
This is where Maher is just straddling the fence enough to appease the blowback he probably has gotten from his friends that think Omar is as crazy as she seems. How could you last month say she was not anti-Semitic after reading her tweets but this month, maybe? You don’t know her thoughts on this but you have read what she has written?
Classic Maher.
Bill has taken some very unique stances on some issues that the left hold dear. One of those is equating terrorism equally to those of all religions. Maher has taken flack for saying that Islam is more likely to promote terrorist attacks than their Jewish and Christian counterparts. Being he is a declared atheist this is just his unbiased, unattached opinion.
Yet, on the issue of whether or not someone who is blasting people of the Jewish faith and heritage is running a lil hot on the anti-Sematic verbal bombs, he is torn on how to approach it. I guess we will have to see how much blowback he gets from the Ilhan Omar and #MeToo lobby and how he straddles this fence even harder.
Hopefully, he doesn’t hurt himself too badly.
