House Plans Hearings Over Trump’s Repeated Use of Terms ‘Fake News’ And ‘Enemies of the People’; It ‘Incites Violence’

House Democrats are certainly delivering on their campaign promises. In what is surely their most conspicuous act of overreach yet, an anonymous House official has told Bloomberg News that the House Judiciary Committee is planning a new investigation into President Trump’s “abuse of power.” The source said they are concerned about Trump’s repeated attacks on the courts, the Justice Department, the FBI and the media.

Lawmakers are especially worried that the President’s repeated references to the press as “enemies of the people” and use of the term “fake news” “potentially threatens freedom of the press, and also could serve to intimidate other journalists.”

Possible candidate for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination Beto O’Rourke campaigned on this issue last fall. “This idea fronted by the president that somehow the press are the enemy of the people, reinforced by him tweeting out images of a reporter being hit by a train, body slammed in a wrestling ring, it is incitement to violence. I don’t know any other way to call it.”

Defending himself, Trump said, “A lot of reporters are creating violence by not writing the truth. The fake news is creating violence. And you know what? The people that support Trump, and the people that support us, which is a lot of people, most people, those people know when a story is true, and they know when a story is false…I’ll tell you what – if the media would write correctly, and write accurately, and write fairly, you’d have a lot less violence in the country.”

An announcement of the probe should come “within days.” Bloomberg reports: (emphasis mine)

Topics for the inquiry will include Trump’s public humiliation of former Attorney General Jeff Sessions, his attacks on actions by the liberal Ninth Circuit Court and his abuse of reporters as “dishonest” and “enemies of the people.”

There are plans to hold public hearings with witnesses, but it’s not immediately clear who will be summoned.

There are questions about whether Trump, through some of his actions, is going too far and undermining the rule of law, a reference to established and defined limits on the arbitrary exercise of power.

Issues will include determining in what circumstances, if any, Congress should take steps to curb some of Trump’s actions, and how that might be accomplished.

The planned public hearings and findings also will give Democrats their own platform to allege, explore and spotlight abuses of power.

No president, with the exception of Abraham Lincoln, has been subjected to such an excessive level of scrutiny. This is an act of desperation by the Democrats and I would argue it is an abuse of power on their part. As their narrative of Trump/Russia collusion unravels, they are opening up a new frontier. Between the latest investigation and Rep. Adam Schiff’s planned examination of Trump’s financial records, they hope to seize upon something they can inflate and use to incriminate the President. Even if they turn up nothing, they believe that the mere existence of several open investigations will maintain a steady degree of pressure on the President. They hope to keep him mired in a constant cloud of suspicion.

In the video above, starting at 3:00, Tucker Carlson presents a montage of Democratic media figures and politicians making meritless and outrageous claims that Putin’s agents were blackmailing Trump, based on the false information contained in the dossier. Carlson had been discussing Michael Cohen’s testimony before Congress. Cohen said he had never been to Prague, nor did he have any direct knowledge that Trump had colluded with the Russians to win the presidency.

MSNBC’s Chris Hayes tells his viewers: “The most incendiary claim in the Steele Dossier was, of course, that a foreign adversary, Russia, has dirt on the President of the United States, exposing the President to blackmail.”

Sen. Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, on the senate floor, reading glasses perched on tip of nose, speaking slowly for maximum impact, gravely announces: “There’s a possibility, a very real possibility that President Putin holds very damaging information over President Trump…”

Nancy Pelosi to group of eager reporters: “What do the Russians have on Donald Trump? Politically, personally, or financially?”

At 5:30 in the video, a second montage begins which includes pompous a** Adam Schiff saying, “I think there is plenty of evidence of  collusion or conspiracy in plain sight.”

Maxine Waters tells Chris Hayes, “Trump has the Kremlin Klan surrounding him.”

In their efforts to destroy President Trump, the stunning overreach of Democratic lawmakers, abetted by a complicit media will come back to bite them. The Wall Street Journal’s Holman W. Jenkins, Jr. wrote an excellent piece this week entitled “The Media Will Reelect Trump.” He writes that the media “would rather believe tall tales about Russia than hear what voters said in 2016. Jenkins, a Never-Trumper, makes the case that sooner or later, the press will be forced to report the “extent to which the FBI had meddled in the 2016 presidential race and he marvels at the obliviousness with which his enemies are working to assure (and even necessitate) his re-election.”

He discusses how historians might characterize the mainstream media’s “fatuous” coverage of Trump. They will wonder, “How did so rich and complex a society as ours survive a pundit class so devoid of judgment, so incapable even of identifying what was interesting about the times they live in?”

Jenkins believes that the Mueller Report will not resolve anything because “it can’t prove a negative, so the hunt by Democrats and the media for collusion will go on.”

Regarding Adam Schiff’s vow to dig deeply into the President’s finances “searching for the motive for collusion crimes that exist only in his imagination,” the press will watch it closely and cover every detail believing that they are “being heroic.” He adds:

Under Democratic leadership, the House Intelligence Committee is well on its way to becoming a Warren Commission for an alternative universe in which JFK spent a nice day in Dallas.

The media will eventually take notice of the strange acts of the U.S. intelligence community and their role in the 2016 election. Either that, or the story of the decade will continue to be told by alternative media outlets that, for all their faults, at least provide a venue for ignored realities to be taken account of.

He points out the great irony in the story. Trump did not believe he would win, so he continued to negotiate a possible real estate project in Russia until June 2106. James Comey was also confident that Trump would lose and none of the improper/illegal deeds of his or of the FBI would be exposed.

The motives behind the House’s newly revealed plans for yet another frivolous investigation cannot be misconstrued. Most Americans will see it for what it is. They will see that Democratic lawmakers who said they would prioritize issues such as healthcare, the economy and immigration in the new Congress, accomplished nothing because they were too busy searching for ways to take down the President.
