Privilege: Democrats Get Really Upset that Beto Said He Was “Born to Run”

Well, this isn’t going to make Beto’s dog any happier.

The 2020 Democratic primary is in a running gun battle to out crazy the 2016 cycle and leave no doubt. So far, they are doing a really good job at it. The latest dust up among the candidates comes from a Vanity Fair interview that noted punk rocker Beto O’Rourke did prior to announcing his candidacy. Beto is currently the flavor of the month so every ounce of negative coverage is hitting him all at once.

In this interview Beto committed the incredibly insensitive act of…(checks notes)…saying he was “born to run”…what?

The more he talks, the more he likes the sound of what he’s saying. “I want to be in it,” he says, now leaning forward. “Man, I’m just born to be in it, and want to do everything I humanly can for this country at this moment.”

This apparently didn’t sit well with Democrats who view Beto as a privileged white dude unworthy of consideration because of the color of his skin. How that’s not racist, I don’t know, but it’s their primary I guess.

The Huffpost went after him in an article extolling all the insensitive evils of young, white men believing they can President one day.

Some may see O’Rourke’s “born to be in it” quote as inspiring. The former congressman wants to be in the arena, even if he loses ― as he did against Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) in 2018.

But other may see a sense of entitlement that only people like O’Rourke ― straight, white and male ― have the luxury of possessing.

Never Trump favorite and noted staff abuser, Sen. Amy Klobuchar, also decided to poke Beto over the innocuous comment. She also let us all know just how hard it is to be a rich, powerful woman running for President. I just don’t know how she does it each day.

The completely unbiased Kasie Hunt over at MSNBC wasn’t too happy either.

I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that no one would have even mentioned it. It’s such a meaningless phrase that I can’t imagine any situation where Hillary Clinton would have been criticized for saying she was “born to run” or any similar statement.

Even the writer of the Vanity Fair piece threw Beto under the bus by noting that “word choice is meaningful,” incinuating that saying “born to run” is offensive.

For Beto’s part, he did what he always does, which is to fold over like a wet paper towel and bow before the inter-sectional demands of his party.

Asked on Sunday about the controversial comment, O’Rourke appeared to have trouble recalling whether he had actually said it.

“Man, I hope I didn’t say that,” O’Rourke told reporters in Wisconsin, according to NBC News. “I don’t know that anyone is born for an office or a position.”

As I said in my previous piece about CNN going after Beto for being white 52 times in one day, you can’t really feel sorry for the guy. He’s playing right into this with the constant apologies and pretending he’s got a minor in gender studies. Inter-sectionalism is a disease and it eventually eats it’s host. No one is safe in the end. Beto, being a white dude, is just one of the first to go. It’s already started to consume Chelsea Clinton as well, who is now not sufficiently woke enough because she dared to condemn antisemitism. Until more sane Democrats (if they exist) wake up and start pushing back on this stuff in their own party, the deserve what’s coming.

As to Beto, I think his campaign for President is already over. He’s just not assertive enough to come back from this. Donald Trump may have looked dead many times in 2016, but you knew he wasn’t going to capitulate and stop fighting. Beto has now apologized for completely harmless statements three times in the past three days. He’s not going to come out swinging in a debate at Kamala Harris or Elizabeth Warren for fear he’ll be called racist or sexist. Good thing he’s worthy $9M because he’s going to need it after his latest journey to find himself as President falls flat.
