You’ve no doubt heard of the college bribery scandal, covered Thursday by RedState’s Sarah Lee and T.LaDuke.
Actress Lori Loughlin — who I love — was taken into custody then released on a $1 million bond. Her husband, fashion designer Mossimo Giannulli, also coughed up a cool mil for his liberation. The two put up their home as collateral.
According to the charges, the pair ponied $500,000 in order to get their two daughters into USC under the guise of them being rowing recruits. Unfortunately, the girls don’t row. #BadMove.
Subsequently, Lori’s been dropped by Hallmark, and daughter Olivia’s collaboration with Sephora has been canceled by the cosmetics giant.
Hallmark released a statement:
“We are no longer working with Lori Loughlin and have stopped development of all productions that air on the Crown Media Family Network channels involving Lori Loughlin including Garage Sale Mysteries, an independent third party production.”
TMZ wittily commented:
Hallmark’s first tragic ending ever.
Well, as it turns out, investment in Olivia’s college pursuits wasn’t necessarily set to generate a tremendous return: In a video posted to social media in August, the popular vlogging teen said she wasn’t much interested in school, anyway. More in line with her curiosities: partying and football games.
“I don’t really care about school,” she explained.
Price tag so far: $2,500,000 + the lost revenue from Hallmark movies and the Sephora deal.
One last thing: This article isn’t intended to make fun of Olivia. She’s a teenager, and she didn’t ask to be embroiled in a national scandal. I wish her well in her pursuits, whether they be on YouTube or at the big game. Or in the makeup world down the line. Her future remains bright.
And I’ll still be watching Aunt Becky on the fantastic Fuller House — starring the lovably conservative Candace Cameron, who did such a laudable job representing the Right on The View.
Given college payoff ordeal’s cost so far, Lori may not be set for a Fuller Wallet. Then again, husband/dad Mossimo is worth $80 million. So I think the whole fam’ll be okay.
