Joe Biden Did Not Speak to Heather Heyer’s Mother Before ‘Capitalizing’ on Her Daughter’s Death

Former-Vice President Joe Biden did not have the decency to reach out to Heather Heyer’s mother before invoking her daughter’s death for his presidential campaign announcement video.

Heyer was killed in Charlottesville while counter-protesting against white nationalists who had went to protest the removal of a confederate statue in 2017. James Alex Fields Jr. was convicted of first-degree murder for her death.

The mother of Heyer, Susan Bro, was not pleased that the tragedy was being used by his campaign.

“But I wasn’t surprised,” Bro told The Daily Beast. “Most people do that sort of thing. They capitalize on whatever situation is handy. He didn’t reach out to me, and didn’t mention her by name specifically, and he probably knew we don’t endorse candidates.”

The video also took comments made by President Donald Trump severely out-of-context.

“That’s when we heard the words of the president of the United States that stunned the world and shocked the conscience of this nation. He said there were quote some ‘very fine people on both sides.’ Very fine people on both sides?” Biden condemned Trump for assigning the same “moral equivalence” to “those spreading hate” as well as “those with the courage to stand against it.”

In reality, what President Trump had said was:

“Excuse me, they didn’t put themselves down as neo-Nazis, and you had some very bad people in that group.  But you also had people that were very fine people on both sides.  You had people in that group – excuse me, excuse me, I saw the same pictures you did.  You had people in that group that were there to protest the taking down of, to them, a very, very important statue and the renaming of a park from Robert E. Lee to another name.”

“I’m not talking about the neo-Nazis and white nationalists because they should be condemned totally.”
