Fauci’s Lawyers Launch Legal Defense Fund as Investigations Against Him Intensify, Attorney General Blanche Calls Senate Findings ‘Extraordinarily Troubling’

Lawyers representing Dr. Anthony Fauci have launched a formal legal defense fund amid a growing number of federal and state investigations into his role in the COVID-19 pandemic response.

The fundraiser has been launched on its own website, FauciLegalDefense.com.

The fund, managed by an independent trustee, is designed to cover the costs of legal representation, document production, and responses to subpoenas across multiple jurisdictions, according to the former National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases director’s counsel.

Attorney General Todd Blanche has said the Department of Justice will continue investigating information uncovered by the Senate, describing it as “extraordinarily troubling,” and noted that it has received a referral while declining to discuss ongoing matters in detail.

Senator Rand Paul has repeatedly called on the Justice Department to take action after Fauci repeatedly invoked the Fifth Amendment during congressional testimony.

State-level investigations into his potential crimes in Florida, West Virginia, Louisiana, and elsewhere focus on issues ranging from pandemic guidance and potential personal financial benefits to the virus’s origins and federal research funding.

A preemptive pardon issued by former President Joe Biden’s autopen covers certain federal matters but does not extend to state investigations or all potential charges.

Fauci’s attorneys have claimed the investigations are “unfounded” and insist he has done nothing wrong.

“Dr. Fauci is facing an unprecedented legal barrage for a retired civil servant, and he deserves a robust defense against these unfounded and frivolous actions,” David Schertler, Fauci’s lawyer, said in a statement to Reuters. “Dr. Fauci has not done anything wrong, and we are prepared to fight back against this shameful harassment of an honorable man who dedicated his career to saving lives.”

On Tuesday, as The Gateway Pundit previously reported, David Morens, the longtime senior adviser to Dr. Fauci at the NIAID, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit offenses and to defraud the United States.

The charges stem from Morens’ role in a scheme to evade Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests during the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the Department of Justice, Morens and his co-conspirators used his personal Gmail account to hide communications about restoring NIH funding to EcoHealth Alliance’s controversial bat  grant, the same grant tied to the Wuhan Institute of Virology that was terminated over lab-leak concerns.

Additionally, Morens co-authored papers that dismissed the lab-leak theory as “thoroughly discredited” and promoted the natural-origin narrative while protecting EcoHealth Alliance and its Chinese partners.

According to the DOJ announcement of the guilty plea:

“Morens is facing up to five years in prison for conspiracy to commit offenses and to defraud the United States. Actual sentences for federal crimes are typically less than the maximum penalties. A federal district judge determines sentencing after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.”

As The Gateway Pundit has previously reported, Morens worked to undermine Trump’s 2020 ban on gain-of-function research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche called it “a profound abuse of trust” at the height of the pandemic.

The original April indictment charged him with five counts, including conspiracy against the United States, destruction or falsification of records in federal investigations, and concealment or mutilation of records.

The taxpayer watchdog group White Coat Waste Project (WCW), which first exposed NIH’s gain-of-function funding in Wuhan and the infamous “Beaglegate” dog experiments, previously warned that Morens was not acting alone.

Responding to news of the guilty plea, the founder of White Coat Waste, Anthony Bellotti, told The Gateway Pundit:

"In April 2020, White Coat Waste was the very first to expose Fauci’s funding for gain-of-function animal experiments at the Wuhan lab — and ever since we’ve led the campaign to hold Fauci and his cronies accountable for abusing animals and their COVID cover-up. David Morens deserves the maximum penalty for conspiring to defraud taxpayers and for hiding what really happened in Wuhan."
